Question
QUESTION: I have one that is approx.1.5 feet long and have noticed that one eye appears very swollen .any ideas, thank you

ANSWER: Hi Vern,
Thanx for your question.  Orfes are very active fish and this sounds like an injury caused by activity meaning the fish probably bumped into something and injured his eye.  There's not a whole lot you can do about this.  I would watch the eye to make sure it isn't a disease at which point you would need to go to the pet store and buy an antibiotic for treating the biological problem.  Like I said, I think it is merely a physical injury.  If it is too severe, the eye will probably not heal back to normal but the fish will be fine.  Have you noticed if the fish is being aggressive towards the other fish or vice versa?  It could also be the result of fighting. Orfes can be aggressive.  I hope this helps.

QUESTION: thank you tom,no aggressive behaviour from any fish,so i hope physical injury is the answer

Answer
Hi Vern,
I just wanted to add, if this is a disease, the eye may turn cloudy or have white fuzz on it.  If it does not appear to be spreading though, it probably is the injury.  I had orfes once and they swam wildly in my pond and were always bumping against the sides of the pond.
