Red Worms In Filter

I have red worms in my pool filter similar to the ones in question dated 8/7/06 from Billie.  My question is, where do they originate, in the filter or in the pool?  I know you said they were harmless, but I do not want to swim with them in the water,  I have shocked the pool with chlorine, and they were still in the filter(that I had rinsed) the next day.  How do I get rid of them and make sure they are gone?  I know this has nothing to do with a pond, but I would appreciate any information you could give me.

I assume you are referring to blood worms?  Or, are they larger, more like earthworms? Either way, the chlorine should kill them.  Are you sure they're still alive (moving)?  Bloodworms are the larvae of certain midges which are little flies.  They may lay eggs in the pool that (when they hatch or at that time) get sucked into the filter.  The chlorine should absolutely kill most any living animal.  Have you tested the chlorine level in the water to see that it's in spec?  Even if you didn't have chlorine, the worms certainly not be any harm to you.  I get into my pond with not only bloodworms but probably a hundred species of animals.  Good luck!
