Question
I would like to vacuum my koi pond.  What is the best vacuum for the money?  I do not want to spend over a $100.  So any suggestions you have would be appreciated.  Alos what do you know about using barley?  My pond is approximately 3000 gallons.  Thanks deborah

Answer
You can buy a pond vacuum that runs off of your existing pump and has a little bag on it they are about $30.00. I had one but didn't find it very good. What I will be experimenting with is a swimming pool pump and sand filter.
Many times people with above ground pools get rid of their pump and filter assembly. You have too look in your local bargain papers you can pick them up for about $50.00. Hook a hose with a screen on it and use like a vaccum it should do a terrific job, don't suck up the fish. I have never used barley, I understand it is very good. What I find effective in keeping the algaie down and the PH of the water right is pond peat, it somes in a nylon bag and lasts for 2 months. It may be hard to find but well worth it.
