Question
I have about 30 koi fry in an aquarium, 3 of the fry are have transparent skin and large black eyes without any visible pupils. I believe the mother koi is a Doitsu, are the characteristics the 3 fry have an indication they are doitsu, or are they deformed.  All other fry look similar with scalles and developing color, and eyes with definition and puplils.  i appreciate any help.  Thanks

Answer
I don't know enough about the varieties of koi to tell you if the dark eyes are normal for Doitsu or other varieties.  I do know that I have seen goldfish with completely black eyes.  I do not think it is a deformity with them or with your koi fry.  I think it's just another variation.  Those three koi should be fine.  It will be interesting to see how they develop and if they retain their completely black eyes as they age.  Good luck with the babies!
