Question
Hi Karen,
As you told me to feed the goldfish with a frozen pea, I have tried it but after swallowing the peas, it drops no matter how big or small the piece is. I am scared because of this. Can you tell me whether the fish can survive?
And also, all my tanks(14) are full. I dont have anymore space for the eggs that my fantail gold is going to lay. Do you think should leave it to lay the eggs in the tank. The thing is that the male is constantly chasing it and part of its fins are bleeding.
Yours

Answer
Hey Srinivas!

I'm so sorry your goldfish is not doing better. The green pea feeding should have helped her. If she is dropping to the bottom of the aquarium she probably still is sick with constipation as this is another sign of this common problem with goldfish. I think you should keep feeding her a diet of frozen peas of course thawed and shelled. Give her some more time to get better. Another suggestion is to not feed the goldfish for two days to allow her system to get straightened out and empty. I recommend you still try feeding her little pieces of peas about once or twice a day. Also please be sure her water quality is good. Make large water changes very frequently and insure their is no ammonia present in her aquarium.

~Of course you could leave the female to lay her eggs in the aquarium but the eggs will be eaten by the pair. I am worried about your goldfish that has red fins. This is either caused by the male picking on her or I hope it isn't a disease called Seticemia which is bactria that attack a fish's  vessels. If you think your goldfish might have Septimecia please let me know and I will tell you as much as I can about it. It is a somewhat rare disease though.  The best thing to do is to either remove the male or female into another tank if the male is picking on her way too much. Also the only thing you could really do if you want to save the eggs is to buy a 10 gallon tank and use a spawning mop specially for goldfish...You can move the mop out and place it in a container or tank with an airstone and hatch the eggs yourself. These spawning mops are made by cutting off 18 inches of nylon rope and one set of ends are tied together and the other end are untwisted to make a big fluffy mop. Since goldfish lay adhesive eggs, they sitck to the spawning mop which can be removed promptly after the pair spawn and the eggs hatched in a seperate container.

I hope I helped! If you have anymore questions I am more than happy to help you as always!

I hope your sick goldfish gets better real soon!

My best wishes to you and all your fish!

Happy fishkeeping!
Karen~
