Question
Hi,
Thanks a lot about the info on Flower Horn. It was more than helpful. Just one bit, can you tell me whether Flower Horns consume Fruits and veggies? I know most cichlids are carnivorous but still i need to make it clear to the Judges. Most participants have chosen GOldfish, Gouramis, loaches and some have chosen Convicts. I think i am the only person to choose Flower Horns.
I just want to know...(for myself not the project)whether Managuanese are compatible with Flower Horns.
Actually i wanted to know the amount of memory that a fish can remember(eg.:Goldfish can remember 3 minutes of time)Anyway the info which you gave has taught me a lot. I am going to try out those tricks on my managuanese. Thanks again!

Answer
Hello!
Well, it seems that Flowerhorns prefer to cosume mostly meat matter. I haven't heard of them being fed fruits or vegetables. I JUST READ THIS RIGHT NOW! Contrary to what I have been reading about this so-called "hybrid" one website I found says the Flowerhorn exists naturally in the wild! And hobbyiests crossbreed these fish to IMPROVE their colors and markings! This is really weird, all the other research i've read claimed they are a secret cross breeding of different S. American species. I guess I was reading the wrong information! oops!

Since they are south american species, they are aggressive and very territorial. Any smaller fish will likely be eaten. They are best kept to themselves and usually if you attempt to keep them with larger or similar sized fish it will almost always result in lots of fighting. And all this fighting will lead to the loser fish eventually getting beaten up ly or the loser cichlid will often hide and sulk and take a good while to regain his confidence. Though I should note, with a very large aquarium, some aquarists have had luck with keeping Flowerhorns with cichlids like Oscars and parrots.

Well, about the memory span of fish.... I do suspect that after learning about Marc's experiment with his fish, that it could set an example that fish can have a longer memory span than 3 minutes at a time. These seems a bit unreal--I mean, how could a fish have a memory span of 3 minutes, it's always possible, I've heard of it before...But I think fish have a better memory than that the proof in Marc's parrot cichlid, remember the colors. And fish must have a longer memory span in order to remember bad experiences, like a larger fish bullying them or even places where to find food and all other things in a fish's life. I don't think it's true that they can only remember for 3 minutes.

Trying those tricks on your Manaquanese would be great! I'm sure he will learn quickly and it will give you a very interesting report I'm sure!

Best of luck!
Happy fishkeeping!
