Question
hey chris, i have a 55g tank with 4 tiger barbs and 6 zebra danios, and a pleco.  Its been set up for about 2 months now.  I was looking at the bottom and saw some "egglike" thing hide in the rocks, so i thought the danios had eggs, well, i looked in the filter and there were tons of them, so i took as many as i could out and put them in a seperate container.  The ones not in the filter, i couldnt catch, they would hide under rocks.  Theyve been in a little plastic container for 2 days now, and now they are crawling around the bottom and sides of the container.  They are about * big, and i cant see any legs or fins on them. Do you know what they could possibly be? I think there some bug that got in my tank.  They're clear with green lines along the sides. I thought they were some sort of eggs until i seen them crawl around.  Any ideas would be most welcomed. Thank you

Answer
Hi Ryan;

They are probably just a pond critter of some kind. I've had similar things in my tanks too. I never see them on my fish and they do appear in the filter as well. It seems they feed on the excess waste. The fish probably eat the critters too. It's just that most of us overfeed our fish so they don't need to forage for natural food sources. I wouldn't worry about them unless they bother the fish directly. Cut back a bit on feeding and they will probably disappear.
