Our Black Moor is sick

Question
One eye has several balloon or bubble type growths on it.  All in all the eye is a least three times it's normal size and looks like more than one bubble.  It looks like the eye may have ruptured on that side.  This seems to have happened very quickly as I look at him daily.  Although I did not study him.  I noticed he was sitting on the bottom tonight and not coming up for his food like normal.  We have had him for several years now.  Any ideas what may be wrong or what meds I should try?

Answer
Hi SeAnne,
I'm not sure what to tell you. The black moor's condition could be many things and I'm sorry to say it may not be curable. This could be the advanced stages of popeye and the poor Black moor may even loose that eye.

Since you'd be the better judge on if he has popeye or not (because you can see him and study his symptoms) I would recommend if you could please visit these links for info and pictures on Popeye-

The best advice I can give for now is to try to give him the best care possible. Make sure his water is always clean and pristine (lots of large water changes) and offer him the best food possible. I might try feeding an anti-bacterial food,  but like I said before this may be something that we cannot treat. Or you could try some of mardel brand medications like Maracyn-Two.
But like I said before this may be something that we cannot treat, It could even be a tumor, cysts, bacterial infection, or injuries. We can never know unless you can get a hold of a fish veterinarian who can diagnose the condition for you. And that is not really possible around here but I have heard of it happening before.

Best of luck and I'm so sorry about the black moor, sorry I couldn't offer better advice... but I hope this helps!
Karen~
