Question
Hi there,
I have a 6 gallon, eclipse tank.  the filter is busted so I have a elite stingray filter running.  the substrate is small, fine green glass, and i have a few plastic rocks set up as a "overhead".  I have 2 glofish, 2 guppies, an african frog, 5 ramshorn snails, and cherry shrimp.  I also have java fern growing.  OK things were great.  everything living peacfullly like the living  mermaid.  the guppies would have babies and the african frog would eat them.  the shrimp would have babies and the fish used to eat those but leave enough for the colony to grow.  Now the snails eggs are running rampid.  i didn't mind until i saw a whole mess of baby snails crawling all over the gravel.  I don't want them all dead.  Since they're the pretty red type, but i do want to keep them under control.  I want a sort of fish that would control their population.  I know i might be over the amoutn of things i should have bu the thank itself is very healthy, hence all the birth.  I need something that'll hunt the snails but leave the shrimp alone.  any ideas?

Answer
Hi Charlton;

The only fish that eat snails regularly are loaches and puffers but they all get too big for your tank. They will also kill your other guys. You might want to cut back on food so that the shrimp and frogs eat the soft-shelled baby snails. Or, just squish a few of them every so often so the other critters can eat them easier.
