moving to bigger tank

Question
Hi,

I'm moving my fish from a 55 gal to a 75 gal. to accommodate my growing pacu. I'm wondering if there is any way to sedate or calm during his move from tank to tank. I've already decided instead of netting him I will try to scoop him up in a large container. Either way, I know he will freak out! Though he's friendly and doesnt mind me petting him, I dont know how he would react if I tried to pick him up bare handed. He's 12 in long and 5 in tall, maybe a year old. I also have a clown knife 8 in long, but I think he will be ok, going to try and scoop him up too, along with the others. Any info would be great. I want to limit his stress as much as possible.

Answer
Hello,

The best and safest way to handle fish is to use a soft net. When using your hands, you have a chance to injure the fish or let him get away from you because they can be so slippery. Make sure the net is a comfortable size for your fish and transfer him as quickly as possible.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Stephanie
