Question
Hello i have a 125gal thats been sitting around and i want to set up a native tank, i was wondering what was the best filter for the tank, i was thinking about a Eheim Classic Canister 2217. But i never had a native tank and was also wondering just whats the best stuff to have it set up, i.e. air pumps filters exc.
thanks Andrew

Answer
I would have to say a wet/dry filter underneath the tank is the way to go.  It will highly oxygenate while filtering.  Canisters are basically nitrate factories and are sold as "not needing cleaned" when in fact, they require it on a monthly basis.  Every filter does.  Wet/dry filters just need the pad rinsed every month and the bioballs rinsed every 3 months.  They are really easy to care for and are highly efficient for oxygenating the tank water.

Powerheads keep flow going and algae from settling.

The saddest thing I see all the time is a freshwater tank without any flow.  Fish like flow!  Most fishes we have are from streams and rivers, not ponds.

Happy fish-keeping.
