Question
Hello Nathan! Seasons Greetings! I have a question: What kinds of small gifts can you get a hobbyist fishkeeper (my friend)? For Christmas? (under $40) Thanks!

Answer
Hi Derrick,

There are many great gifts you can get. I'll list five good examples. You can find almost all these items in your local fish store. If not, they can be found online.

Marineland Stealth Heaters ($30-40 for the 50 & 75 watt models)
Considered to be the top-of-the-line heaters, these are among the best and most sought-after heaters on the market. Reliable, easy to use, and efficient, these heaters are, in my opinion, the best of the best when it comes to heating. Your friend will love them!

Digital Thermometer Probe ($15-40)
These are small digital displays with a small probe that sticks underwater. They accurately measure the temperature of the water, with a convenient LCD readout that is quite nice. They go well with the decoration.

Ornaments and Decorations ($3-30)
These are always a great addition to any tank! Make sure you buy aquarium-safe ornaments at pet stores. Don't get brightly-colored ones - they look terrible, and will never be used by an experienced hobbyist.

AquaClear Powerheads ($30-40 for the 10 and 20 models)
Powerheads are underwater pumps. They are efficient, strong, and can be used in a variety of applications. Although they are quite expensive, you can easily get the AquaClear 10 for only $29 approximately. AquaClear, by Hagen, is the best brand of powerhead.

A Store Gift Card
Large companies, like PetSmart and PetCo, will have gift cards available. If you're unsure of what to get, gift cards are always a great option!

I hope this helps! Merry Christmas to you, too!
