Question
was wondering if you can tell me a way to determine male and female Gourami.  I have a large golden gourami and I want to keep more, but I've heard the males will fight.  I went to the pet store and bought what the attendant told me was a female, only to find out it's another male and they are fighting something fierce!

The only other thing I have in the tank is a Red Bruno, and it's a 35 gallon tank.

Thanks,
Lori

Answer
Female gold gouramis look the same as the males, except that they have shorter rounder dorsal fins.  Males and females will still chase each other and fight a bit.  Make sure you have plenty of places for the female to hide.  Ultimately, you should have a few female for each male, a 1-3 ratio, but you don't have room for more then 2 in your tank.
