Answer
Hey Dillon
Congrats!!  It is nice being able to help others out isn't it :)

The problem with the smaller tanks/bowls, bettas really need to have a water temperature at least 78 F, and I don't believe I've ever seen a heater for that size of a tank.  The lights on those smaller tanks put out heat(sometimes too much) but when you shut off the light, the water cools off.  The smallest heater I've seen is for a 5 gallon, and even then it's hard to keep the temperature regulated.  They tend to heat the water too much.  A lot of people ask why they're betta is losing it's color, acting lethargic, not eating, etc. it's usually because the water is too cold for them, which stresses them and makes them more prone to illnesses.

As far as it stressing them seeing each other all the time, I can't say-not a betta expert.  I've never kept bettas like that before.  I've always had either 1 male in a community tank or a couple of females in a community tank.  I really don't know if the constant "flaring" stresses them or not.

My other "personal opinion" is that they really should have at least 5 gallons and be in a filtered tank.  A filtered tank is easier on them too since you don't have to do as many water changes, and you only need to change out a bit of the water once a week as opposed to a 50 or 100% water change every few days.

Hope that helps and good luck with your new "job" :)
