Question
I have a fresh water aquarium with an increasing number of snails.  If I add a crab will it feed on them and keep the number in check.

Answer
Hi Brad,
Unfortunately crabs won't really keep snails under control..But there are some types of fish that can and will. Loaches are highly reputed to be great snail control. And you might want to consider adding these to your tank, provided the tank is large enough. Loaches are a natural method of snail control and can do a pretty good job at it.

Clown loaches, Yoyo loaches and Skunk loaches are some of the species you may consider. Just be sure to research whichever one just to be sure you can provide for its needs, (tank size, ect...)

Also, making sure you aren't overfeeding is a very helpful way to control snail populations. The only way snails can continue overpopulating is if there is an abundance of food available for them. So just make sure you aren't letting too much food settle on the bottom.

Best wishes and I hope this helps!
Karen~
