weel ,the dempsy has been here for 5days now and semms to getting along well w/ the others alttle tiff w/the surinamensis eart eater and the jewel which is halh the dempsy's size but all seem to have found thier place , the dempsy is very active and doesnt hide at all ,our family has decided to name him angus!he has taken to pellets and frozen well and will eat alittle bit of cichlid flakes to . any recommendations on how to improve his coloration?? thanks again , tim

I'm glad to hear the Jack dempsey is doing well and all are getting along well!

As for his color, feeding plenty of variety to him including color-enhancing cichlid pellets and high quality foods plus clean water will help keep his color good. Also keep in mind Jack Dempseys, like all cichlids, will change their color depending upon their mood or the environment. It could also be his age. The older Dempseys get, the better their color usually gets. He may need a little more time to settle in also.
