buenos aires tetras color

Question
We have two buenos aires tetras in our tank and one of them sort of changes colors. Sometimes its really like dull-looking and you can't even see any red or black. Then we'll look again and it looks just like the other one! I was just wondering if you know why it does this? We've had them before and nothing like this happened!

Answer
Hi Danielle,
Its very common for fish to change colors depending upon their mood or environmental changes. Oftentimes fish will change colors when they have been confronted by other fish or they are frightened. Or even fish that are in a spawning mood.

It can also be a sign of insecurity. Maybe before you had more then just two Buenos Aires Tetras and they felt more comfortable in a group. This is just a guess.

I don't think its anything serious. Just normal fish color change.

Best wishes and Happy fishkeeping!
Karen~
