Question
I found one of my sunburst platies dead at the bottom of my tank with my female beta swimming next to it.  when ever the beta goes near another of my platies he goes on his side and tries to get away from her. I used to have two female beta's but one died while I was on vacation and my niece was taking care of my fish...what can I do?

Answer
Hi Bobbi,
The betta probably wasn't responsible but one thing I would check is the water quality. The biggest number 1 cause of fish death is poor water quality often due to overfeeding. Even if the water is clear it can be very polluted. You can take a sample to your petstore to have them test it for you but you can also buy your own test kits to use at home whenever there is a problem.

Best of luck!
