Question
hey karen so remember that subject that we were talking about about the unstable nitrite level in my container. well this question is kinda diffrent but not really. well if my source water has nitrate in it, then was it even neccisary to cycle in the 1st place?

thanks for you time.

Answer
Hi Kenny,
That is a good question and something I wish I had thought of. Your source water might indeed have nitrite and nitrates in it. Sometimes this happens. I've had it before with my water. In this case you will  have to use a water conditioner like Amquel+ or Prime which neutralizes these chemicals.

Although if the tap water had nitrate in it. Your tank would still  need to grow the beneficial bacteria to keep ammonia/nitrite levels under control.

I hope this helps and best of luck!
Karen~
