Orange Chiclid

Question
I have a 75 gallon fish tank. I have a bright orange fish that looks like it might have eggs in its mouth. I had two but one died, I'm not sure why. But this orange fish is holding something in it mouth. Than its not for a while, than I see it a few weeks later and its mouth is full. What does this mean? I have a lot of holy rock for the fish to hide. What should I be doing?

Answer
Hi Linda,
Well, cichlids generally take care of their babies perfectly well themselves so I can't really suggest you do anything special. Mouthbrooding cichlids hold their eggs for three to five weeks. When the fry hatch the female will often still take the babies back into her mouth if she feels they are in danger. The fry are generally able to eat normal fish flakes when they are released from her mouth and are free-swimming about.

I'm not sure what to really tell you to do besides just let nature do its thing.

I hope all goes well!
Karen~
