Minimum size for 2 fancy Goldfish?

Question
Hi Nathan,

I'm planning on buying 2 fancy Goldfish. I'm leaning towards ranchus, but I might get a black moor instead. What's the minimum size that I should get? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Jay,

Goldfish will get quite big, so a large aquarium is recommended for them. Most Fancy Goldfish will reach an adult size of 6"-10" or even more. Ranchus, especially bright red Ranchus, are strikingly attractive fish, and they are quite nice fish to keep.

If you're going to get a pair of Ranchus, the minimum size you'll need is 30 gallons. If you want to keep more fish, you'll need a 50+ gallon aquarium.

The reason is that Goldfish produce a lot of waste, and they feel more comfortable in a large aquarium.

Good Luck, and Happy Fishkeeping!
