Tap water for fish tank

Question
I am starting a 10 gallon fish tank for the first time.  I am very excited.  I have simple fish, a black mor, golden fantail, and some goldfish.  I am wanting to set the tank using tap water.  I have heard that that is alright to do.  Please let me know any info that I need so that when I add my fish they will not get harmed.  Thanks

Answer
Hello Nicole,

Yes it is fine to use tap water in some conditions. Do you have any pH strips or any other water testing kits? Also when using tap water it is a good idea to add 1/2 a tablspoon of tank salt for every 1 1/2 gallons of water in your tank. That helps the fish stay healthy, and also to condition the water a bit. But I could tell you exactly almost if you have good enough tap water to put in your tank if you have or purchase a test kit.

Most likely the tap water is fine, but to stay on the safe side I would recommend a test kit for your tap water.

You can either get water test strips which are cheaper and easy but not neer as accurate as the test tubes.

If you have any further questions feel free to ask.

Thanks,
