Question
My two goldfish I won from the fair have been living in their own tank for almost a year now and they are fed daily. Their coloration has greatly improved since the fair and their fins have lengthened. They are healthy about three inch long goldfish but all of the sudden have picked up a habit of cleaning up after themselves. After they eat and the leftover food is on the bottom of the tank for the rest of the day they eat the forgotten food and actually move their waste with their tails to the filter. Is this normal? I've never seen goldfish do that and I was wondering if it could be caused by stress of bad water (I check the water every day and change 20% of the water weekly) Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi Will,
I must say that reading your question made me smile. It's really good to hear the goldfish are doing so well. But try to make sure that there isn't any leftover food from their designated feeding times. This can cause pollution problems. So just be careful with that. You are doing really good with daily testing and changing 20% every week. The more water changes the better with goldfish though ;-).

If their color is bright and their fins are outstretched, and they are eating I'd say your goldfish are quite healthy and doing well.

Best wishes and I hope this helps!
Karen~
