When will my Platy give birth?

My red wagtail platy is getting very round in the belly area. She also has a small gravid spot (I think). I was just wondering if there is any way to tell when she will have the fry?

Very difficult to say. Often, the pregnant female will go into hiding or refrain from associating with the other fish when she is about to have fry. She may stay primarily in the corners of the tank or hide in plants for much of the day. Often, her belly will become 'squared up' when viewed from the top. But this does depend upon the individual fish and younger platies may or may not become so large.

Keeping an eye on her and noticing when her behavior is a little 'off' is often the best way to tell. Some fish are very unpredictable.
