my betta fish.

I have two betta fish, both red. I have a tank witha divider. they are trying to get at rachother and there faces are kinda of blowing out,like there gills are swelled, they do this when they tyr to go at eachother. I've only had the fish about 2 days. (06-19-05. It is a half of gallon tank and i've had it set up for about 2 days.

................what should i do...............

Hi Derek;

This is very normal behavior for male bettas. They are trying to get each other out of their terretory by looking bigger. Their fins and tails expand and their gills flare out, so it's called "flaring".

Change their water at least once a week and use a good water conditioner and it will help them stay as robust and strong as they are now.
