Question
I have a freshwater tank which is about 6 months old, the water quality seemed OK according to the 6 in 1 test kits, which I check weekly.

I had 2 Plecys that died within a couple of days of each other and another type of cat fish. Can you tell me what the likely problem may have been as there must be something that affected them?

Thanks

Greg

Answer
Hi Greg;

I really need more information about your tank, your fish, feeding regimen, water change schedule, etc., before I can help you. Here's what I would like to know, do the best you can;

What size tank? (gallons or liters, or at least tank dimensions in cm or inches)
What is the tank water temperature? Does it fluctuate over a 24 hour period?
What kind of filter? How often is it cleaned?
How often do you change water? How much water is replaced every time?
Do you vacuum the gravel?
How deep is the gravel?
What other kinds of fish do you have? How many fish and how big are they?
What do you feed the fish? How often?
How long does it take the fish to eat all the food you put in at each feeding?
Did the dead fish have any symptoms of illness before they died?
Did their bellies look sunken? Any redness on the bellies? Anything else that could give us a clue to the problem?
Have you added any new fish or any chemicals or medications to the tank recently?

Let me know as soon as you can...
