Cichlids with Peacock Eels?

Question
Hi I have 2 peacock eels they are both around 6inches.....Im getting ready to set up another tank and Im thinking on going with cichlids in this one. My son in law told me I can put the eels in with the cichlids but I want to make sure before I risk the health or even worse the lives of my eels.....they are very peacefull and dont feed live I give them frozen bloodworms.  ...Oh and in case you need this info about the new tank. Its a 37gal square with a marineland 70gal filter  I havent started it up yet as I know if I go with cichlids I need lots of rocks first....Also if I were to go with an oscar how many could I put in that tank and would it go with anything else? thx Jas

Answer
Hi Jas,
I would strongly discourage you from mixing eels and cichlids.  Most cichlids will bother the eels.  An oscar will almost certainly eat the eels.

Oscars are wonderful and interesting fish but they get large and need space.  I would only put a single oscar in a tank up to a 50 gallon size.  Keep in mind that an adult oscar is 12 to 16 inches long.
