fighting cichlids

Question
I have two cichlids that fight no matter how often I separate them. Do these fish ever live peacefully or should I just let the strongest survive. Also how do I tell sexes. My tank is a 29 gallon with multiple plants and one cave. It has two other small fish that live like they are not even there. Any help would be appreciated.

  Hmmm... one cave, two fish...    Do you see the problem?

You need to have at LEAST as many good spots as there are fish, ideally many more.  Otherwise, they are always going to fight. Fish don't share.  

 How you tell the sexes depends entirely on which species you have.  Do you know which species of cichlids you have?
