How to keep Flowhorn from eating eggs

Question
I have a pair of Flowerhorns who laid eggs today. They have laid eggs in the past and ate them the next day. How can I keep them from eating the eggs and how do you know if they are fertile?

Answer
Hi DeNae,
You can tell if they are fertile if you see them start to develop.  By that, I mean that you look to see if the egg goes dark inside. There should at first be a thin dark streak which then gets larger (that is the developing embryo).  If you don't see that in any of the eggs after about a day or two, then odds are they were not fertilized, which may be why the parents keep eating them.
