Diseased Tinfoil Barbs

Question
Hello Chris,  I have two Tinfoil Barbs and they both are sick.  They both have some sort of disease that is affecting their face and mouth.  Above their eyes is all red and they have not eaten for over a week!
I have been treating the water with MELAFIX AND PIMAFIX for five days (the dude at the pet store suggested I try this).
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.
Bob

Answer
Hi Bob;

Redness often indicates a bacterial infection. You might want to try tetracycline or erythromycin. Melafix and Pimafix are too mild to really cure anything if the infection is serious. They are very good products to use for helping to heal damaged tissue and soothing wounds though. They can be used right along with traditional meds as support.

The most important thing to do next is figure out why the fish got sick in the first place. How often water changes are made, how big the tank is, how big the fish are, how long the tank has been set up, what other fish are in the tank, etc., are all important factors. Tinfoils tend to be a bit hyper sometimes and can injure themselves too. Let me know if you need help in figuring it out.
