Hi,I am breeding my betas. My female beta is showing vertical and horizontal lines. Is that normal? or should it only be vertical? I had put a male in the breeding tank with the female in the breeding trap, but when the male was making bubbles, they would burst right away and now i had put them in a smaller bowl with the female in a jar in the middle, and he is making alot of bubbles. I am wonder why the bubbles kept bursting in the breeding tank.

Hello Kimberly-

Sometimes males just need practice before the bubbles stick together. Also, the chemical levels of the water and the humidity of the air play a part. It's tricky trying to explain the bubblenest, but if you have faith in your bettas, they'll eventually get it right. :)

Answer
The stripes aren't as important as her behavior. If she's still afraid of him, don't let her loose. My females have horizontal stripes all the time, and when they're breeding they just have a stripey jumbled mess so I judge on their actions.
