QuestionQUESTION: How do you keep the tank water temp for goldfish below 72 if room temp goes above 85?
ANSWER: Hi Lisa,
That is one of problems with keeping goldfish. First, the water will naturally be a few degrees cooler than the air, but that will only get it down to 80 or so. The other thing you can do is to make sure that you have a good airstone in there -- goldfish need a lot of oxygen if the water gets warmer.
You can also put the tank in a darker part of the room.

QUESTION: what is an airstone and how warm is too warm for them?
AnswerHi Lisa,
An airstone is a small thing that looks like a rock (often blue, green or white) that attaches to an air pump. It takes the air out of the air pump and makes it into a fine stream of bubbles. This puts air into the water.
I think that 80oF is getting VERY warm for a goldfish. 85 is way too hot.
