My Beta is sick

I have had my Beta, Louis, for almost a year. Lately, he has been extremely sluggish and sits at the bottom of the tank, only going up for air and food. He is also very fat. Could he just be getting old and is it his time? He lives in a 1 gallon tank with no other fish. I clean in once a week. I don't think I am doing anything wrong other than over feeding him. Could you help me?

It sounds like a failed swim bladder. One of the possible causes is overfeeding so there may be something you can do to help him. Here is a link to info about it;
