Question
I had 3 green spotted puffers but 1 of them just died and I got both of them 3 days ago. When I got them, I putted them in a small fish bowl, feeding them twice a day. I am afraid that they will both start to die! What do I do?

Answer
Hi,
Firstly, I apologize for not replying sooner, my hamster had a tumour and I was extremely worried about him. I hope you will not give me negative ratings, as this is out of my hands.

All fish need a proper tanks, especially fish like puffers.
Green puffers grow to 7 inches (17cm) and need at least a 48" tank. They are not even tropical fish. They need a brackish, or even fully saltwater tank to thrive. They will die in freshwater. They need to be fed snails and mussels to grind their teeth down.
The tank HAS to be fishlessly cycled, otherwise the high levels of ammonia an nitrite will simply kill them.
The cycling for a brackish tank will take several weeks, and in a bowl for that amount of time they will die. You should take them back to the fish shop asap.

If you really want puffers, get a 10 Gallon tank, cycle it, plant it, and buy 2 Dwarf Puffers, and no other fish.

Best of luck,
Kathryn
