golden severum eggs

Question
Hi Ron, I've had a pair of severums for 3 years. they are in a 100 gallon tank with 6 other smaller cichlids. i found hundreds of eggs on slate today. unfortunately they are white so i guess they are not fertilized. this is the first time i've found eggs.  Does this mean, I have an inexperienced male or a sterile fish?  both fish are hovering over them protecting them.

Answer
Hi Peggy,
There are several possibilities.  It could be that the male just didn't get his act together.  It also could be that you actually have two females.  In either case, I'd give them another chance and see what happens.

You have noticed one of the coolest things about severums, namely that both parents can sometimes fan the eggs together.  I saw that years ago with a pair of severums but I've never seen any other cichlids do that.
