my fish always plays dead and i cant tell if hes alive and i have a question on what i should feed him

I will need a lot more details before I can help you in anyway.
Every single fish is going to have different needs, from water alkalinity to temperature to diet. I suggest you do some research on your specific fish and do some reading on the Nitrogen cycle, and beginner fish keepers.
Always remember to do research on the pet BEFORE you buy it. I can not stress this enough. And yes, that includes fish.
