Question
My calico fantail has started resting at the bottom of the tank, nose up.  It is still eating healthily.  What does it mean when?

Answer
Hi Susan;

Unless you can see something physically wrong with him, it may be the water. Change 25% of the water right away and have it tested for the levels of ammonia and nitrite. If there is any at all of either toxin, it means the biological balance isn't stable so continue to make water changes. Even daily if needed to keep them low enough for the fish to tolerate until the beneficial bacteria in your filter takes over. If you could share some more information with me I could help you more;

How big is the tank?
How many fish do you have?
What kind of filter?
How long has the tank been set up?
How often do you change the water and how much water is changed?
How often is the filter cleaned?

Let me know and maybe we can figure out what's going on...
