Question
Hi Nick!

It's Mariel the one with the pregnant gold mickey platy. She is very very pregnant and when the light hits her just right you can see individual sets of eyes in the gravid spot. This is the thirtieth day that I have had her and she still has not given birth. Could she possibly be one of the livebearers that is pregnant for three months? And she is very very large so I doubt that she could be because she does not at all look as though she could get any larger.

Answer
The gestation period is anywhere from 23-40 days in new mother platies. Just keep waiting, it will happen sooner or later.

No it is not one of those livebearers.

Raising the temperature (VERY slowly, no more than a single degree every few hours) to 78 or 80F will speed up the gestation period. So will feeding high protein and live foods.
What temp do you have it at now?
