Question
I have three fish a fantail a oranda & betta. This morning I found out I now have 2 fish the fantail & oranda.  The betta was attacked and all it's fins and tails were gone.  Eaten or shredded, don't know which. I've had my fish for 6 months and I thought it was the fantail was the cause of this. But, my husband who always falls to tell me until after the fact, told me that he has seen the oranda attack on occasions and bit the betta.  Is Oranda an aggressive fish?  I have a BiOrb fish tank and started feeding them once a day, because the tank gets dirty fast, when feeding twice a day.  I'm have been upset all day, since I take pride in my fish.  They are  my only pets and I do my very best to care for them.  Everyone on the list said no to goldfish, you didn't. I hope you can help. Also, I don't know what most initials mean, also. :+)  (that's my clown face). Thanks Lee

Answer
Hi Lee,
Any fish can be aggressive. So, it is very possible that the Oranda attacked the betta.  Something to keep in mind is that goldfish such as orandas and fantails are actually cool water fish, while a betta is a tropical fish, so they really shouldn't be in the same tank together.
