Black worms in tank

Question
I saw where a lady asked you about small black worms in her tank.  I have those and also have no idea how I got them except I do know they are not mosquito as they develop into black flies.  Tiny black flies

Hi Jayne,
 Is the water in your tank stagnant, i.e., the surface not moving?  If so, that is not a good situation.  Either your filter or your airstone should keep the surface of the water moving.  Mosquitos and the like will not generally lay their eggs in moving water.
