Question
Hi I have a community tank and have had angel fish in there for about 1 year now.  I originally had 4 and 2 paired off.  I do not have another tank to put them in so was not planning on breeding them but they did it anyway.  They laid the eggs and were very protective over them but unfortunately they were gone the following day.  They laid more a couple of weeks later and this time I bought a divider to give the eggs a chance but the eggs died.  This is now the third time they have done it as soon as i saw the signs of laying i divided the tank to give them some peace, they have taking turns fanning the eggs but they don't do it all the time, they will do it once or twice every 20 mins or so and now the eggs are starting to die again.  Although I am not particularly bothered about them breeding I am very frustrated for them and can't help but wonder why this is happening please help thanks.

Answer
Hi Joy,
It is very difficult to know exactly what is going on.  It takes lots of observation because Angels do not all act the same way when spawning.  Sometimes, if you are lucky, both parents look after the spawn, sometimes only one does, and sometimes, they both turn around, and eat their eggs.  The worse part is, sometimes a female could act like a male which is why your eggs are fungus, or don't hatch.  This too can happen.  I would tend to believe that since your eggs are not hatching, then they are not fertilized.  Angels will remove fungus eggs, so if they just leave the eggs there, then there is something definitely wrong, and you must really observe them to see what is happening.  They might be poor parents, they could be two females, it could be the environment, it can be anything, only you will find the answer to this.
I'm sorry I cannot pinpoint your problem, but know that Angels can be very tricky since I breed them.
