fresh water aquarium problem

Question
Hi. I have a 46 gallon freshwater tank with about 20 fish, mostly neon's, tetra's and barb's. After about two months of water changes and water treatments, I finally have my tank clear. The one problem I have is the residue that is on my artificial plants, boat and rocks on the bottom. It looks like fuzz or hair growing. Some of it is stringy, like worms. I feed the fish once a night with Tetra TetraMin tropical flakes. Some of the flakes laying on the bottom are covered with this. It is hard to vacuum up because it globs together. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Rich,
You are vastly overfeeding the tank. There should not be any flakes lying on the bottom ever. Only feed the fish what they will eat right away (as in within a minute at most).  Uneaten food quickly rots and grows fungus (which is what you are seeing).
