My male betta

Question
Hello. I just bought a male betta fish about 2 weeks ago from walmart.  I noticed about 2 days after I put him in his tank there is a small white ball was attached to a plant with something that appears to be inside. There is also a much smaller one attached at the bottom of another plant. The ball also has gotten more clear as time has went on. I am unsure of what it is. Is this normal?
Thank you for your time

Answer
Angel,

Sounds to me you have snails in your tank. The number one way they get to your tank is hiding on a plant. You should rinse the plants off real good before you put them in the tank. They will multiply and will do it very quickly. You can either remove them, or leave them in and the Betta will eat them. They are good things to have for they eat algae and the parts of the plants that are dying or are already dead. I started with 3 snails in my fry tank and now I have quite a few. If you decide to keep them, be prepared to get over run. If that happens, you can place a lettuce leaf at the bottom of the tank at night, and in the morning you will see them on the lettuce, and then you can remove them.
