Question
what kid of tool or toy will trim the beak? Or would a visit to the vet be better. thanks

Answer
Hello Brenda,

My bird had an overgrown beak also. If your bird has all plastic perches, this could be a contributing factor. If there are all plastic perches, the bird cannot rub its beak against anything to trim it down. So if this is the case you should get some wood perches. Also a cuttle bone would help alot. This is a great tool for the bird to grind down his beak on his own. Pet stores also sell many types of perches that are specifically made for trimming the beak and toenails. The perches look like they are either "sandy" or very "rocky". But keep in mind, if your birds beak is extremely overgrown a vet visit would be best. If the birds beak is too overgrown it could cause him not to be able to eat and he could starve. If your bird has a mild case, then try some of these tools and if the bird does not get better soon, you should take him to a vet.

Hope this helps!
