feeding/health budgie!

Hi Christopher,

I bought a young budgie a few months ago at a local pet shop.  I've researched online about what types of fruits and vegetables they are allowed to eat, but can you please give me a list?... Can they eat mango?

Also, I noticed about a week ago some of the feathers on top of her head looked like they were gone/short little stubs... I know it can't be from plucking them considering its on the top of her head where she can't reach. Is she molting? It seems to be growing back now but just a solid color instead of the striped black.

Hello Cristie,

Mostly any fruit's will be fine for your bird. Just avoid seeds in the fruit. I don't have a specific list that I can give you, but they are all over the internet.

As for her feathers, yes that is what a molt looks like. As your bird gets older she will lose all of those black stripes on her head. A way to tell if your bird is very young is to look at the stripes on their head, if they have them then they are young.
