Question
HI we have 2 cockatiels who mated late  on monday i belive september 27th. we went to a pet store and got a nest box and have them in a different cage with the box. she still hasnt layed any eggs but shes becoming VERY protective of the nest box i looked inside yesterday and she came charging in through the hole and came at me squawking beak wide open looking very mean. does this mean shell be laying soon? is she even pregnant? i was just wondering because we have them in a spare room away from the cats, and i feel bad there alone in there with just a radio on. i also notice shes been a little mean to the male who she usually is very loving with. this is our first time ever dealing with a possible breeding so we dont know whats going on
i really appreciate any help you can give
thanks

Answer
Hello, If you havent looked in the nest box lately she may already have some eggs if shes in there offen and shes aggressive, it takes two weeks for the eggs to form in her belly and then every two days she makes more until her cluch is complet, normaly the cluch has between 4 & 8 eggs thou more or less are not uncomman, they'll be fine in there with a radio on as long as they have each other, being out in a room where theres cats walking around may scare both perant and they may abondon there nest, also be sure the radio isnt too loud the hen will feel safer if there isnt something loud near her. I hope this helps fi you have any more questions feel free to ask.
