HELP! how much to feed baby rock doves

22 17:50:42

Question
A few days ago, I found 2 baby rock doves (so new that their eyes were still closed) thta someone had put in my metal mailbox. They were very cold and lethargic. The first thing I did was to warm them against my skin, and then put them in a wooden drawer witha heating pad set to low and a towel over the pad . I also, placed a damn sponge under the towel and to the sideto provide humidity. I got a formulate recipie from a local widelife rescue hotline and made it. I am feeding every 4 hours or so and the babies seem to be getting stronger. They are now holding up therir heads, peeping when they hear me and actively searching for the food. Their eyes are just trying to open now and I've had them for three days. The question is this, I'm not sure how to tell if their crop is full afer afeeding or if it is emptying properly between. I am only feeding about 1-2 mL per feeding, and am not sure if this is enough. Their little crops do round out a far bit (i think) But I'm not sure how much is right for these little guys right now.

Thanks
Tina

Answer
Hello Tina and thank you for your post.
It sounds like you're doing a fine job with these babies.  Kudos to you for taking them in and taking care of them!!!!!
Just make sure that you do not see the formula backing up into the babies' throats.
One of the other experts on this site has a website that you'll find very informative.  I do recommend this site to may people.  It is mainly for parrots, but it is the same rule-of-thumb for pigeons.

I think you'll find this very helpful.

Please keep me updated on these babies.
Good luck and God Bless.
