Question
I have bought a love bird about a month ago- and I try toplay with it but it bits me when i go close to it and i try to let it out of the cage and all it does it sqwak at me. I am a student in college so I come and go for classes and when i get back she sqaks at me and I hear her all day swqaking and its annoying. I try and play with her and she avoids me but swqaks when Im not giving her attention. I put her in a dark room and she doesnt sqwak as much. She likes her reflection but then sqwaks when shes bored looking at it. I dont no what to do. She eats fine and drinks fine and she looks alright- I try and give her attention and she just  bites me. There is like no answer.

Answer
Hi, Laura,

I picked your question up from the question pool.

Your lovie isn't tame.  In addition, perhaps your new lovie hasn't had time to settle down in its new environment in your home and get used to you yet.  If you are in classes a lot, you most likely don't have much time available.  Don't blame the bird...the bird just isn't imprinted on humans and isn't tame.  The bird was not properly socialized to humans when it was a baby, thus, is scared of humans.  Give your bird more time to settle down first.  Then try working with it a bit every day.  Visit my website for more info on taming:  www.angelfire.com/falcon/birdinfo/index.html.  www.birdchannel.com is also a good website.
