Question
I've had my male and female cockatiel for a year know, hoping that they would breed. i've seen them mate many times but i've never seen any eggs in the nest box. why isn't she laying eggs and how will i know that she does have eggs inside of her?

Answer
Sabryna,

Unfortunately, just having a pair of cockatiels who mate is no indicator that the female will actually lay eggs.

It could have to do with where the cage is located, or where the nestbox is, or what the ambient temperature is, or how much light reaches the cage every day, or the kind of food they are eating, so I cannot give you an answer as to why she isn't laying eggs.

Regarding how you know if she has eggs inside of her...you should never feel the abdomen of a female cockatiel to check for eggs, as you could injure a developing egg, and the cockatiel could suffer as a result.
