Question
Hello Roger,

The Steller's sea-eagle and Philippine eagle are the two largest eagles with the Largest and probably strongest beak among eagles.

Which of the two has the stronger beak and why? Steller's ea-eagle is a fish eagle that feeds primarily on fish while the Philippine eagle is a forest eagle that feeds on mammals and reptiles such as snakes and monitor lizard.

Thanks

Answer
In zoology heaviest means largest so the Philippines Eagle would be largest but in size the Harpy Eagle takes it. In terms of longest wing span, the Wedge tailed eagle of Australia has the largest, with estimates of average wingspan ranging from 230cm to 250cm, with rare examples reputedly reaching 300cm.

The Steller's sea eagle is the heaviest living eagle averaging 15-20 lbs and the Philippine eagle is the largest in physical dimensions or size averaging a meter tall, 95-112 cm in length, longest legs and claws with the largest wing surface area. The Harpy eagle is the bulkiest or lagest body mass in relation to its size.

There are different ways at looking at a stronger beak - are you talking about the jaw muscles or the density of the beak? And the sharpness of the beak allows eagles to tear prey with less muscle. I've done research on the jaw and beak power of birds and I don't think anyone has done any research on these two species, so I can't be sure. Probably the Philippine Eagle, as you suggest.
